In our fast-paced lives filled with responsibilities and distractions, finding moments to truly connect with our partners can be challenging. However, there's one intimate activity that not only fosters physical closeness but also deepens emotional intimacy – massage. And today, we're going to explore how you can elevate your connection with your partner through the power of touch, incorporating a unique technique called Ashiatsu.
In honor of Valentine's Day, I couldn't help myself but write a post about a cretive way to connect with your partner. Yes, dinner and a movie is always special. And yes, something artistic and creative is always a plus, but massage creates that extra special connection between two people that nurtures the relationship beyond just time together. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Why Massage?
Massage isn't just about relieving muscle tension; it's a form of communication that transcends words. It allows partners to express love, care, and appreciation in a non-verbal way. The act of massaging releases oxytocin, often referred to as the "love hormone," promoting feelings of trust and bonding between partners. Moreover, it provides an opportunity for relaxation, reducing stress levels and fostering a sense of well-being.
Introducing Ashiatsu
Ashiatsu, derived from the Japanese words "ashi" (foot) and "atsu" (pressure), is a massage technique where the therapist uses their feet to apply pressure to the recipient's body. While it may sound unconventional, Ashiatsu offers several benefits, including deeper pressure without causing strain on the hands and a broader surface area for more effective muscle manipulation.
The Trap Massage Technique
One of the key techniques in Ashiatsu is massaging the trapezius muscles using the therapist's heels. The trapezius muscles, located on either side of the neck and upper back, are prone to tension due to stress and poor posture. By using the heels to apply pressure, the therapist can effectively release tension in these muscles, promoting relaxation and alleviating discomfort.
Avoid the acromion process. Feel around for the bony part of the shoulder and stay away from that area - the outside of the shoulder.
Check in with your partner. You can deepen pressure (see photos above) by flexing your toes towards your shin and lifting yourself up, using your partner's traps as leverage. Alternatively, you can lessen pressure by pointing your toes.
Spice it up. You can add tapotement to the massage by creating fists with your hands and drumming gently on your legs to release tension in your partner's traps and even release stress in your quadriceps. Note: If you find a tense spot, hang there and work to release it with some tapotement.
Creating the Perfect Setting
To fully enjoy the benefits of partner massage, it's essential to create a comfortable and conducive environment. Set the mood with soft lighting, soothing music, and aromatic candles. Choose a quiet space where you won't be interrupted, allowing both partners to fully immerse themselves in the experience. Remember to always check in and make sure that you are both on the same page as you work on this technique.
The Movie Night Massage
A creative way to incorporate massage into your routine is to combine it with another enjoyable activity, such as watching a movie. For this massage setup, one partner sits on a comfy cushion on the floor, while the other sits on the couch. The partner on the floor can receive the massage, while the other can relax and enjoy the movie.
Benefits of the Movie Night Massage:
Shared Experience: By engaging in a shared activity like watching a movie, partners can bond over a common interest while also enjoying the physical intimacy of massage.
Relaxation: The soothing ambiance of a movie night combined with the therapeutic benefits of massage creates the perfect recipe for relaxation and stress relief.
Quality Time: In today's busy world, finding quality time to spend with your partner is invaluable. The movie night massage allows couples to reconnect and strengthen their bond in a meaningful way.
In conclusion, massage is more than just a physical practice; it's a powerful tool for deepening connection and intimacy between partners. By incorporating techniques like Ashiatsu and creative setups like the movie night massage, couples can nurture their relationship and create lasting memories together. So, next time you're looking for a way to connect with your partner, consider giving them the gift of touch through massage.
All my light and all my love.
Namaste,
Jordan
